In this extraordinary and moving work, Bach sets the Passion of Christ to music as the story is told in the Gospel of John. He first performed the piece at Vespers on Good Friday in Leipzig. It was the first Passion music he had written in his role as Cantor.

This performance is given by the Temple Singers and Temple Players, whose soloists, chorus and orchestra are hand-picked from the best exponents of London's Baroque Music scene. Some of the solo writing is among the most beautiful Bach ever wrote, and the work is book-ended by two monumental choruses.
